Early Intervention
"Music therapy was the key that unlocked the door to my daughter's speech. The technique of connecting my child's passion for music with her desire to speak has broken down the walls of silence for our family. It started with one word, then two words, and now we are up to three words at a time. Words cannot possibly express the depth of my gratitude to my friend for paving the road with an introduction and to Miss Tamela and her amazing team for helping my child find her voice! Music therapy has been the best investment in my child's success I have made to date. With a heart of deep gratitude,"

Individual Music Therapy
"Tamela has a true gift with special children. Even with a child who cannot communicate she is able to make a true connection quickly. She takes the time to consider different approaches that suit the individual and plans accordingly for the sessions to get the most out of the time together. Tamela is always full of joy and energy. Our daughter gets very excited when it is time for therapy with Tamela; it is a highlight of the week! When you meet Tamela you will understand the meaning behind the name, 'Joyful Music Therapy!'"

Adapted Lessons
"Since 2010, we’ve had the pleasure of watching Tamela work with our son, Zac. Zac was diagnosed at age 2 with Autism and is now a happy, balanced 19 year old. Over the years, we have had a regimented schedule of home schooling, speech, OT, PT, and ABA therapies. We searched for opportunities for Zac to extend himself creatively and are so grateful to have found Tamela and her Joyful Music Therapy! Tamela has a gift working with children with special needs. Taking the time to understand our development goals for Zac, she weaves into each lesson specific opportunities to reinforce our ABA goals and the life skills we are developing. Under Tamela, Zac has learned how to read music, play the piano, guitar, African drums, and the lap harp. Zac is even taking voice lessons now to help work on his enunciation. Tamela has been such a blessing to our family. Zac is so much more focused and confident! Many thanks to Tamela and Joyful Music Therapy for giving Zac a creative outlet to express himself."

"My son, Cam, began taking private music therapy lessons in February. Since he already knew Amy as his music teacher at school, it was easy for him to jump right into music therapy. She started him on drums and keyboard. In a few short weeks, he began looking forward to each lesson and practicing consistently. We began with 30 minute sessions and have added time on slowly as his endurance and focus continue to improve. The exciting results came when his teacher emailed me in April saying that Cam was socializing more with his classmates at school. I knew it was the music therapy because we had started to see the same thing happening at home. It was very exciting for Cam to perform in the spring concert with Joyful Music without fear or anxiety. He was surprisingly quite confident. I think music has brought a lot of exciting changes to my son's life."
Music Therapy with Memory Care and Alzheimer's
"Thank you for providing this awesome service! Amy Gower is fantastic - she has truly brought joy back to my mother's life! My mom has been suffering from Alzheimer's Disease for the past 10 years. By last summer, her disease had progressed to a level where she was very withdrawn and seldom responded verbally to stimuli. She did still tap her hand or foot along to music. However, after Amy started working with her last fall, she has blossomed! Now, she is daily more attentive to the activity around her, as well as more engaging and willing to be engaged. She lights up when Amy arrives! Not only does Amy play music and sing with her, she walks and dances with her as well, whatever makes Mom comfortable. Mom sings along, and sometimes stops to pat Amy's hand, give her a kiss on the cheek and tell her ‘Thank you.’"
“Immediately beginning with their first appointment, Amy has invited me and my family to join them; this offers us a great new way for my children and me to interact and enjoy time with Mom. Additionally, Mom has grown in her language skills, most definitely in initiating conversation! (She has not regained the ability to speak coherently or without stumbling over her words, but she does talk again! And very often, she uses complete sentences!) the personal care, attention and dedication of her music therapist has given us back the gift of my mom. Thank you Amy!"
